Hello, dear readers! Welcome to the Vault! Please allow me to give you some background on how this site came to be, and its raison d'être.
The Vault was originally inspired by fear - fear that great pony fanfiction may be lost or forgotten in the turbulence of the modern digital age. Friendship is Magic isn't my first rodeo, and I'm all too familiar with how easily favorite stories can simply disappear from the Internet, as the sites that hosted bustling crowds of fans during the peak of popularity wither away to ghost towns and eventually shut down. This same fear drove the creation of the Pony Fiction Archive as well; the PFA was originally intended to be a repository of all FiM fanfic, though in hindsight such a thing can never exist - there are too many fanfics, the output of our community is simply too great, and in the end there will always be multiple fanfiction archives for any given fandom.
The Vault was also inspired by a hypothetical scenario which came to me, as most striking ideas seem to do, in the shower one morning - what if My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic disappeared? What if somehow all stories, art, memes, macros, episodes, everything that ties our community together dissolved into nothingness? Which fanfiction should be preserved in the event of some catastrophe, that future generations might know the true depth of our community's talents? I also thought it may be interesting for readers to have some context for their favorite stories, especially as time passes and interest in our fandom waxes and wanes, and since I would be contacting each author personally to ask if I may include their work, it would be the perfect opportunity to sit down with them - as it were - and conduct a brief interview to share with their fans.
